Round One – River Prairie

You have 75 minutes to complete this round. Email your team’s answers to frsakowski@gmail.com

[For complete contest rules click here]

1) Find the River Prairie Nexus bridge. Start counting up its planks! If you count the skinny one as ½ plank and all others as one full plank, how many total planks are on that bridge? [3 points]

2) Poor trolls. They moved to their new home and suddenly no one wanted to touch them during the pandemic; most visitors just sat and watched them from a distance on a solar-powered bench. What company designed the bench? [1 point]

3) Find Mocha Joe – as in the dog, not the beverage. What two words are printed above him? [4 points]

4) That last clue probably made you thirsty for a real mocha. You can order one in the drive-thru if you’d like – you know, the one with the red star. But surely you are doing your clues on foot, right? On the reverse side of the drive-thru speaker board you will find the company logo along with two bits of advice. What are they? [1 point each – 2 points total]

5) Speaking of advice, what advice does the sign at Massage Envy give regarding your body? [2 points]

6) Have you visited the new Veteran’s Memorial yet? It includes plaques honoring each branch of the U.S. armed forces. Find the right-most plaque. Which branch is featured there? [1 point]

7) Now that you’ve found the Veteran’s Memorial, you should appreciate some of our veterans. Find the stone honoring Dennis F Meyer (one of our own St. Mary’s parishioners). What two words are carved at the bottom of the stone? [3 points]

8) While you’re at it, you might as well learn a little Latin. What five-word Latin phrase is carved on the stone honoring retired Gunnery Sergeant Douglas Furuseth? [2 points]

9) Somewhere you will find a new establishment, and you will see the bird, the bike, and the lemon. Each represents a different beer. Name those three beers. [1 point each – 3 points]

10) According to a different window in a different establishment, how much weight did Alex V. lose? [4 points]

11) According to still another window in still another place, new patients getting an exam and x-rays will receive a free item. What is that item? [2 points]

12) See if you can find the bench honoring Sgt. William Wayne Carpenter. What slogan is printed above his name? [2 points]

13) The sewer grates around here are apparently made of Nyloplast Ductile Iron. They give a command not to do something. What is that command? [1 point]

14) Go beneath the bridges, and past the kids that don’t float. Follow the first white arrow, but not the second. At the top of the hill on the right you will find two blue booths used for a very particular purpose. They were put there by an organization in Chippewa Falls bearing the initials C.C.C. What is the name of that organization? [6 points]

15) State Farm is here to help life go right. These days they are featuring a cardboard cutout of one of their favorite TV personalities. What’s his first name? [1 point]

16) On the wall of Cowboy Jack’s there is some corrugated metal listing a year of establishment in white stenciled letters. What year is listed? [1 point]

17) Getting tired? Hotel accommodations are available if you need them. You can even drop off your UPS packages in the parking lot out back. What is the posted scheduled pickup time for those packages? [2 points]

18) Speaking of hotels, did you find the new Bee Hotels? According to the signs, what number of flowers can a Mason bee visit in one day? (give in your answer both the low number and the high number posted on the sign) [2 points]

19) Need longer-term accommodations than a hotel? If you call Mark or Justin Held, you can rent a flat. According to the sign, what is the starting rate for 1 & 2 Bedroom flats? [2 points]

20) Would you like an ice cream break before driving around town? Check out the flavors at Olson’s. One of them has a Spanish name. What is that flavor? [1 point]

Your team may also earn 1 point each (up to 5 points) for photos of your team at the various clue locations (by submitting photos you are giving St. Mary’s permission to use them in future communications and promotions).

If your team is serious about competing for the 1st Place Trophy please note that, in the event of a tie at the end of the contest, the winner will be the team who submitted these Round 1 answers the earliest.

(All teams are eligible for the $50 scrip giveaway drawing regardless of their placing!)
